No Metro lines, no URLs. This time, it’s the 140 most influential people on twitter, sorted by #name #handle #category #influence #activity. It took us a long time to achieve what we envisioned — on the surface it’s more artsy than geeky, and looks like something straight out of the MoMA. But if you dive in, you’ll find lots and lots of interesting data inside.

Just like the previous Web Trend Map, it’s another A0-sized poster (841 mm × 1189 mm / 33.25 in × 46.75 in). Printed on thick, super high quality paper using the best printer we could find in Japan, it’s monochrome with a beautiful glossy PP spot varnish. There’s no gray in the poster at all — any part that appears gray in the images is actually black, with the darker circles being varnished.

It features the most influential Twitterers arranged in categories, shows when they joined, what they first said, how many followers they have and how many times they tweet per day. All sizes are relative. The size of the main black circle represents the total users of twitter, and every other circle is proportional to the amount of users represented. For instance, you can see that the followers of Barrack Obama indeed include a large number of the total users on Twitter.

Where does the data come from?

We analyzed the data in our Web Trend Engine (30GB), got a sneak peek into the top 100 list from the Max Planck Institute Twitter research team, talked to Twitter directly, and asked our audience to make sure that we got international tweeters in there too.
